Frederico Câmara in conversation about his work with Dr Fern Elsdon-Baker, Head of the British Council's Darwin Now project.

Fern Elsdon-Baker is currently head of the British Council Darwin Now project: an international project celebrating the 200th anniversary of Darwin's birth and the 150th publication of his most famous book On the Origin of Species. Having originally studied Environmental Sciences, Fern then went on to complete her doctoral studies in the history and philosophy of evolutionary theory. In particular, her thesis explored the way in which usage of undifferentiated terminology has constrained both historical and contemporary scientific discourse around key concepts in evolutionary theory. Her ongoing research interests focus on the history, philosophy and communication of theories of heredity and evolution, in relation to Darwinism and Neo-Darwinism from the mid-nineteenth century to the present day. She also has a broad lecturing and research background that includes medical ethics, history and philosophy of science and science communication. During, 2009 she published a popular book that critically analysed Richard Dawkin’s contribution to science communication entitled Selfish Genius: How Richard Dawkin’s rewrote Darwin’s Legacy.
